Jowar moringa rasam

Ingredients (Serves 2-Three)

  • 1 tbsp jowar flour (home made)
  • 1tsp tamarind pulp
  • 1tsp jaggery powder
  • ½ tsp moringa powder (or 2 tbsp dried moringa leaves)
  • Rock salt to style
  • ¼ tsp asafoetida (heeng)
  • 1 tsp rasam powder (learn extra for home made rasam powder recipe)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper powder
  • Steamed drumsticks minimize in 2-Three inch items (Four-6 items)

For tempering (elements)

  • 1/2  tsp cow ghee (or coconut oil)
  • ½ dried pink chilies
  • ¼ tsp mustard seeds
  • ¼  tsp fenugreek (methi) seeds
  • ¼ cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 6-Eight curry leaves
  • ½ tsp ginger garlic grated


  1. In a deep pan, warmth oil and roast jowar flour. Once roasted, add salt and turmeric. Add water and permit it to return to a boil.
  2. Separately steam (or blanch) drumstick items in salt water.
  3.  Add steamed drumsticks to jowar water combine, cowl it and permit it to simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, combine moringa powder (or dried and crushed moringa leaves) with enough water to type a thick paste. Add it to the jowar drumsticks combine.
  5. Check for salt, add extra if required. Add rasam powder, black pepper powder, tamarind pulp and enough water. Let all of it come to a boil.
  6. Now in a tadka pan, add ghee or oil and watch for it to warmth. Add within the mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, dried pink chili and let it crackle. Once they’ve crackled, add the curry leaves and crushed ginger garlic and switch off the flame. Add this tempering to the rasam and blend properly.
  7. Let it cool after which add jaggery powder. Garnish with a great deal of coriander.
  8. Reheat and serve sizzling.

Rasam powder (Ingredients for 100 g powder)

  • 1 cup dried pink chilies
  • 1/2 cup coriander (dhania) seeds
  • 1/Four cup arhar dal (break up pink gram, washed, soaked and dried)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1 tablespoon entire black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon methi seeds (fenugreek seeds)
  • 1 tablespoon mustard oil

Rasam powder (Method)

  1. Separately dry-roast coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds and arhar dal till they’re crisp and pinkish brown.
  2. Once roasted, set them apart to chill.
  3. In the identical pan, warmth 1/2 tablespoon oil in low warmth and fry chilies to set it apart for cooling.
