NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday stated the second wave of Covid-19 has created an “alarming situation” and agreed to increase the interval of limitation for submitting appeals by litigants till additional orders.
Observing that resurgence of Covid-19 circumstances has put the litigants in a “difficult situation”, the bench prolonged all intervals of limitation ending on March 14, 2021 till additional orders.
A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana stated a proper order could be handed after going by the notes submitted by the Attorney General K K Venugopal.
The bench additionally comprising Justices Surya Kant and A S Bopanna stated for the previous few weeks there was an alarming scenario throughout the nation due the second wave of Covid-19 placing litigants to hardship.
The high court docket had earlier determined to finish the extension of limitation interval which was granted for submitting appeals in March, 2020 to litigants as a result of Covid-19 pandemic scenario.
The apex court docket had on March 23 final yr invoked its plenary energy underneath Article 142 of the structure to increase the limitation interval of appeals from courts or tribunals on account of the pandemic with impact from March 15, 2020.
