DEHRADUN: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) submit between Malari and Sumna areas alongside the Indo-China border within the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand witnessed an avalanche triggered by a glacier burst on Friday night.
Vivek Pandey, spokesperson, ITBP, mentioned, “Although the exact details will come by Saturday morning, we can confirm that no damage was done to the ITBP post and the men posted there. The whole region has been witnessing heavy snowfall since (Friday) morning. The area is covered in almost four-to-five feet snow cover.”
Meanwhile, there have been unconfirmed studies that water within the Rishiganga river in Chamoli rose by a few ft following the incident. Jagdish Singh from the National Thermal Power Corporation management room at Tapovan mentioned, “The water level started increasing due to rainfall in the upstream areas of Chamoli. The rise is not an outcome of the glacier burst incident.” On February 7 this 12 months, flash floods within the Rishiganga and Alaknanda rivershad result in large lack of life and property.
